Happy Friday, everyone!
Since it’s Friday I’ll be sharing a little something personal from the life of Lauren. Get excited! However, I have been debating whether or not to share this and I’ve come to the conclusion that I most definitely should. I’m super excited about it and hope this either inspires you or you jump on board to hold me accountable… and please do!
As I was saying last week, I love planning out my goals and “resolutions” if you will for the year. In the past, life always seems to get in the way of my resolutions. Something unexpected pops up and throws off my routine, as well as my momentum. But that’s life! We can always expect the unexpected. What’s important is how we handle it and push through it. Now, with a family and a new business I needed to adjust things a little. I still wrote out a few goals for the year and outlined a very realistic timeframe in which I can complete them- thank you Day Designer!
But this year I also decided to come up with ONE word to focus on throughout the year. Below are a list of some of the words that came to mind.
Spontaneous (as you can imagine that can be hard for a planner), Genuine, Present, Savor, Wonder, Courage, Connect, Gratitude…and the list goes on. I probably had around 20+ words that I was debating on. I was praying about it and finally felt led to this simple word….
Here is how the dictionary defines open:
- allowing access, passage, or a view through an empty space; not closed or blocked up.
- exposed to the air or to view; not covered.
- unfold or be unfolded; spread out.
- completely free from concealment
synonyms: free, unstopped, unobstructed, clear
These are jus a few definitions and synonyms, but it helps paint the picture. I have loved unfolding the different layers of this word and how it will and can relate to my 2016. I moved to our home here in southwest Michigan a year and a half ago now. It was a very difficult transition and it has taken me longer than I’d like to admit to feel connected and at peace.
‘Open’ being my word for 2016 fits perfectly into my life right now. I am being challenged to keep an open mind and heart, remaining open to the possibilities and blessings that God has in store for us this year, and opening myself up to others.
I find myself in different situations throughout the day and week where ‘open’ pops into my head. I am now taking more risks and putting myself out there more! I am no longer putting pressure on myself to live up to my unrealistic resolutions and then beating myself up when I fall short. And at the same time, having something positive to focus on (my word) has helped align other aspects of my life.
I printed out and framed the word ‘open’ and set it on our bedroom dresser. It’s my daily reminder to start the day off with an open heart and open mind and to give any worries over to God. He can handle those much better than I can.
So, what is your word for 2016? If you don’t have one, do you feel inspired to search for one?
Have a great weekend and Happy Valentine’s Day!
